The important part = You take those savings and put them to work for you!
Where? How? That's up to you! What does your household need right now? Vet bills? Braces for the kids? That long overdue getaway? Paying off debt so all of your money can be...well...yours again? You name it!
The key here is to keep track of every dollar that you save. Put it where it makes the most impact and DO NOT LOSE TRACK OF IT or it will have the tendency to disappear. It's uncanny. For example, if you usually spend $250 per trip to the grocery store, and you now spend $175, grab that $75 and put it into solitary confinement as soon as you can. Even if your household budget isn't perfect yet, hang onto these funds until you know exactly what to put it towards. Keep it in a separate account, buried in the back yard, under the mattress, whatever! Just don't let it stay co-mingling with the rest of your money.
Is it simple? Yes. Is it easy? No. The good news is...gaining control of your finances is more within your control than most people think. This process will be 20% informational and 80% lifestyle change. If you stick to this (like any major overhaul such as hitting an aggressive fitness goal or getting a promotion at work), you will see changes and soon!
Don't beat yourself up if you're not executing the plan perfectly. Some progress is better than no progress. Just lean into the process and know that the results will be directly proportional to your commitment.
